Technical

The high tech, chemical free solution to the costly problems of scale caused by hard water, in commercial, industrial, mining, irrigation and domestic water carrying systems.

How does Turbu-Flow work?

When a mineral dissolves in water, it dissociates into charged particles of opposite charge known as ions, those with a positive charge are known as cations and those with a negative charge are known as anions.

It is a proven electro-chemical phenomenon that when an electrical current is passed througha solution containing ions, electrolysis takes place and deposition of scale occurs on pipes and equipment.

Greater deposition will occur:
If the water quality is poor (hard), i.e. contains large amounts of dissolved solids
If the piping and associated equipment consist of two or more dissimilar metals
With evaporation and subsequent crystallisation if the water is heated

To stop this deposition, the ions have to be neatralised to form uncharged atoms and molecules, so that these contaminants can be flocculated as a suspension in the water rather than allowed to form scale on the equipment. This process is achieved via the Turbu-Flow complex alloy core which is made of numerous metals which have been scientifically selected form the galvanic scale.

When the ion laden water comes into contact with the Turbu-Flow core the ions are attracted onto the core, causing them to be neutralised. Due to the critical configuration of the core, water velocity brings about turbulence and the ions are washed off the core and re-entrained back into the water flow as a harmless colloidal suspension of neautral particles.

The neutral particles are then removed in a variety of ways:

Before

After
  • They are flushed out in an open system

  • They collect, in a soft state, at the low point of the system to be removed periodically

  • They can be removed via a ‘Totally Dissolved Solids Bleed’

Frequently Asked Questions

Save Time and Money

What is Turbu-Flow?

Turbu-Flow is a water conditioner designed specifically to prevent the costly problems associated with the build up of scale in any water carrying system.

Maintenance on this 21kw electrical element was time consuming and expensive. The solid mass of scale around the element would have to be chipped and scraped away.

Does Turbu-Flow use chemicals to remove scale?

No. Turbu-Flow is a chemical free solution to problems associated with scale buildup and eliminates the need for expensive chemical systems.

After model TUF 2034 was installed on the inlet line to the steam generator, maintenance time was greatly reduced. As can be seen the soft residue is now easily removed with a minimum of effort.

How will Turbu-Flow save me money?

Turbu-Flow will save you money by:

The result being a huge reduction in time and a reduction in costs to the mining company! There is also the added cost saving of not trying to generate steam through 2” of heat wasting scale.

  • Eliminating and preventing the build up of heat wasting scale.
  • Eliminating the need for costly chemicals and the resultant pollutants.
  • Reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Protecting your investment in capital equipment.

How does your water compare?

Will Turbu-Flow change the taste of my water?

Hardness (as CaCO3) caused by calcium & magnesium salts. Hard water is difficult to lather.

No. Being a water conditioner and not a water filter or softener, Turbu-Flow does not alter the taste, texture, colour, appearance or odour of the water.

Does water temperature make a difference?

mg/l = milligrams per litre, also expressed as, ppm = parts per million.

The temperature of the water makes no difference. Turbu-Flow works efficiently in either hot or cold water.

Is Turbu-Flow difficult to install?

The Proven System

Turbu-Flow is very simple to install. Locate the position in your system for the unit, remove the corresponding length of tube and install the Turbu-Flow...Simple! Also, it makes no difference at what attitude Turbu-Flow is installed. ie, vertically, horizontally or angled and flow can be from either end.

Does Turbu-Flow require maintenance?

The Turbu-Flow System:

No. Turbu-Flow has no moving parts and requires no ongoing maintenance.

  • Resists The deposition of calcium carbonate and in almost all cases brings it back to solution as calcium bicarbonate.
  • Removes dehydrated calcium carbonate (scale) from pipes and equipment by causing it to dissolve, in some cases it flakes away.
  • Stops the deposition of gypsum and brings it back to solution.
  • Retards the corrosive action of iron sulphide and iron oxide.
  • Stops the deposition of free sulphur and in most cases brings it back to solution.
  • Eliminates or greatly retards the corrosive action of hydrogen sulphide upon metal, specifically steel.
  • Stops the deposition pf salt, and in all cases brings it back to solution.
  • Inhibits the formation of some algae.
  • Works effectively in either hot or cold water.
  • Will reduce maintenance and therefore costs.
  • Allows equipment to work with more efficiency.
  • Has no moving parts.
  • Does not require a power supply.
  • Works without the us eof chemicals or magnets.
  • Requires no ongoing maintenance.

Is Turbu-Flow suitable for domestic use?

Yes. In fact Turbu-Flow conforms to AS/NZS 4020: 1999 as being suitable for potable water.

Turbu-Flow units can be custom built to suit your flow requirements.

Selection Made Easy

1. Determine the average flow rate of the supply line to be protected.
2. Use the table above to match the average flow rate
.
For Example:
The average flow rate of the supply line to a hot water system is 25 l/m.
From the specifications chart above you can see that the flow rate falls between Model 1218 (18 l/m) and Model 2034 (34 l/m). The correct model Turbu-Flow would be the 2034 with a recommended flow rate of 34 litres per minute. In all borderline cases it is better to select the larger sized Turbu-Flow unit to gain maximum performance.
